Extreme Weather and Your Car Battery

Checking your battery before summer or winter comes can be a good idea. This is because extreme temperatures can affect the battery negatively, and after a hard winter or hot summer, the battery may not be fully charged anymore.

Hot temperatures can shorten the life of the battery. Battery life can be shortened as much as by half when temperatures are 15 degrees or more above 77 degrees Fahrenheit. High temperatures can also cause rapid evaporation of the battery fluid. Cold temperatures can bring higher demands on batteries, from circumstances such as the engine oil being thicker in the cold and the starter requiring more power. And, in extremely cold weather, the battery can actually freeze.

When you need your battery checked, bring it in to Fairway Lincoln, and we will test the battery and check its condition. We can also provide any other service you may need.
